Each level seems unique and there are new mechanics explored every few levels. It's certainly addictive yet deserving of your time and attention. There is no dought that the developer put his heart and time into this project and it shows. Please buy it if you like platformers, you won't be disapointed!. Do you love Mario Games & Cats? Well, this is the perfect game for you! Just buy the damn game, you will not regret it, I promise you this! \u2665. One of the best platformers i've played. Like the ones I played as a child (early kirby games came to mind), and without the nostalgia-goggles, this probably means this game has better level design and balance than some of those. While the basic gameplay is fairly casual, it realy starts to shine in how cleverly the chalenges are designed: going for all gems requires some decent platformer skills.tl;dr - buy if you love to challenge yourself in 100%-ing a platformer.. OK this is adorable. Fun little retro-inspired platformer with some clever puzzles if you want to collect all three gems on every level. Controls are responsive and the way the character moves and jumps feels good, there's a flutter jump rather than a double jump which you don't see a lot of and the animation for it is super cute. Playing with a DualShock 4 and have to use the analogue stick to crawl (down + left/right on the dpad doesn't work for some reason) but that's my biggest complaint.Fun, more challenging than you'd probably expect it to be, and oh so cute. I got it in a bundle but it'd be worth it at full price. MagiCat is a Japanese themed 2D retro pixel platformer where you control a magical cat and you need to negotiate many obstacles to progress through the many levels in the game. This is definitely one of the better 2D retro pixel platformers out there, and in many ways it rips off several of the Super Mario games, and the message that really tells us is that Nintendo has the 2D platformer market cornered. Even on PC, there's a number of platformers that don't rely on lazy retro pixel graphics.Even though a lot of work has gone into this, it doesn't surpass the best platformers in the genre, I can't recommend it.. + Cute style+ Simple controls+ Collectables- Recycled enemy\/bosses- Short unless you go for 100%- Too easyThe game has a nice style to it, simple yet effective and pleasing to look at. The controls are simple which is nice when you buy upgrades to your dash later on. You can buy upgrades with gems you have to get in each level and some of these are tricky without upgrades. The dev's have stated each gem can be gotten without using the dash but some are really frustrating to do without it. Points are meaningless unless you want more catpaws but the game is so easy you really shouldn't need to grind nor need to go for the top score to get many. I am already at world 6 with 900 catpaws and have used them on the world-map for some hidden items. There are 7 worlds so plenty of levels to play and each one sports their own boss, the final level of each actual world being original and not an enemy you see in the level. As much a I like the game though even the original bosses have similar patterns to defeat them which can be a let down but understandable with the simple style the game has. However I feel this game could of done better without a boss at the end of the normal levels. They are just bigger versions of the enemy you fight along the way in the same level. Some bosses later on have different attacks maybe but not different enough to justify this many bosses. They are just recolours over a pattern you already faced before. I feel they are there just to drag out the game for 20 seconds longer per level which is not good IMO. Time attack proves how short the levels are, each time attack gives you 100 seconds to get to the end and even if you screw up a few times you often have 20 seconds to spare. If you don't care for the gems the game will be short eve with over 60 levels.Overall it is nice but again the bosses at the end of each level just make the game less fun to play in the long-run at least for me. I give the game the thumbs-up however, I not really seen any bugs and the gems are the only real challenge I see so there is something for everyone who loves platformers. Take out the reused bosses and the game is pretty solid.. Edit: It has come to my attention that MagiCat's developer was previously part of the team ElagoTech which developed Miracle Fly. This not only explains why the games are so similar art-asset and mechanic-wise, but also means that MagiCat's developer is well within his rights to use these assets as he likes.I apologise for any confusion I may have caused. With that cleared up, I can now happily recommend MagiCat as it is a cute and enjoyable 2D platformer with tight controls and smooth gameplay.I'd be hardpressed not to compare it to Miracle Fly even now, the two are very similar in many ways after all. MagiCat has the charm and puzzle elements from Miracle Fly but replaces the mouse controlled flying element with a control scheme more akin to Super Mario Bros 3. The game has some sort of story, delivered through cutscenes with meow-ish dialogue; a script sometimes difficult to follow, but with clear and concise acting to make up for it. Sound design and music could use some work at times, but the charming asthetic and slick gameplay more than makes up for it.If you like cats and you like platformers, you will probably like this game! For clarity's sake you can find my previous statements below. Just know that after having been informed that the developer behind MagiCat previously worked on Miracle Fly, my thoughts are no longer the same. ------------------I don't like making assumptions, and so I won't. But I would very much like a response from the developer or publisher for MagiCat because there is something that has been bugging me about this game since the moment I laid eyes on it.As much as I do genuinely enjoy MagiCat and I do believe it is a well designed and fun game, some of the artistic choices, and the Overworld map design in particular has me baffled. You see, when I picked this game up, I instantly thought of another game released 2 years ago called Miracle fly. The overworld map looked identical to me when I first saw screenshots of it in the store, and when I opened the game up even more so. You can see a comparison here: http://imgur.com/a/NjmlL For a video comparison of the two games click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4n-KhkQc7wAs the game seems to be heavily inspired by Miracle fly, to the point where I thought they shared assets, I believed this game to be from the same developer team or publisher. But it is not. I do not know much about videogame development laws and I won't pretend I do, nor do I believe this is enough to claim plagiarism, but in some areas I feel it does border on it and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The similarities do not end with the overworld map, they merely start there. The game's enemies and bosses are very similar as well, as are the 3 red gems you are tasked to find in each level, the coloured buttons and corrisponding walls you are to manipulate to traverse the areas among other things. As previously stated, I do believe MagiCat is a fun game, and I can see some real effort was put into the game's coding as your character moves smoothly and platforming is satisfying. However, the art direction (although more retro inspired with pixelated graphics) does come far too close to Miracle fly without being made by the same team to worry me.If I could get a response from MagiCat's dev or publishers clarifying the similarities (perhaps they're simply free assets in a program like unity), then that would do much to lighten my mood. As it stands though, I am not sure if I can recommend MagiCat due to my previously stated shakiness when it comes to its drastically similar assets to those used in the previously released game Miracle fly. Despite how much I enjoyed playing the game in the short while that I did before deciding to compare its art assets to those of Miracle fly, which thereby prompted me to write this review, I have decided to request a refund for MagiCat unless I get a response clarifying the similarities and assuring me that no plagiarism has taken place.Sincerely, Sinful Sorcerer.. This game's really good! There are some 50ish or so levels, and practically every one introduces some new mechanic. Likewise, each boss has a trick to beating it, so the game stays fresh all the way to the end. Difficulty wise, most platformers these days are absurdly easy or ridiculously hard, but MagiCat hits a nice balance. Plus, you get to play as a cat wizard. Don't need much more than that.. One of the best platformers i've played. Like the ones I played as a child (early kirby games came to mind), and without the nostalgia-goggles, this probably means this game has better level design and balance than some of those. While the basic gameplay is fairly casual, it realy starts to shine in how cleverly the chalenges are designed: going for all gems requires some decent platformer skills.tl;dr - buy if you love to challenge yourself in 100%-ing a platformer.
